A journey halfway around the world to Australia takes the No. 84 Porsche team to the iRacing Bathurst 12 Hour this weekend. Following a tough outing in the race one year ago, the team hopes to do better this time

Last year’s iRacing Bathurst 12 Hour was marked by a balance of performance putting the Porsche 911 GT3 R at a significant disadvantage to all other GT3 class competitors.

While disappointing, it was therefore little surprise that in last year’s edition of iRacing’s second special event of the calendar year resulted in a race that left the team unable to contend for positions, finishing five laps down.

Because of the usual high retirement rate, mostly because of teams crashing out of the event at Mount Panorama, the team still wound up a respectable 11th place in the end.

This time, the team wants to go for more.

“We want to finish and finish well. We want to contend. The balance of performance looks like it’s better this year, but we feel like the Ferraris and BMWs still have a leg up on us. We’ll focus on consistency and avoiding trouble, again.”, said Benjamin Fischer.

Fischer, who will make his first start of 2023 after announcing he will not be part of the team’s VSCA drivers lineup this year, can’t wait for the event.

“I feel racey. I’m definitely ready to go. This is a challenging track and a long race. It’s perfect. I feel like I am ready to go. It’s been a while.”

The 38-year old will be joined by team-mates Niclas Pedersen and Manuel Mayer in the No. 84 Porsche. Pedersen comes fresh off a victory in the VSCA 24 Hours of Daytona driving for Mayer’s team, Mayer Simspeed Performance.

Meanwhile Mayer will try to use this weekend’s event to put Daytona behind him, when the No. 84 Porsche team finished 23 laps down in a disappointing 14th place.

The iRacing Bathurst 12 Hour at one of Australia’s most prestigious tracks, Mount Panorama Circuit, will take the green flag early Saturday morning, at 7:40 am GMT.

Fischer Motorsport will have a live Onboard stream from inside the No. 84 Porsche on YouTube.
