Y. Hignet, Fischer Motorsport part ways
Driver Y. Hignet and Fischer Motorsport have mutually agreed to part ways, the team announced on Wednesday. The 26-year-old made his debut with the team in the iRacing Petit Le Mans in October at Road Atlanta.
In a total of eleven races with the team, Hignet earned three top-five finishes.
Hignet signed with Fischer Motorsport just a few months ago, in a public announcement prior to the 2020 iRacing Petit Le Mans, to take his sim racing career to the next level and to pursue GT/sports car endurance racing.
Team manager Benjamin Fischer said in a statement on Wednesday:
“First of all, we want to thank Y. for his efforts and the time that he invested these last seven months with us.”
“We were super excited to welcome him into our team just this past October and were looking forward to a long, successful partnership together. But we understand that unfortunately sometimes things do not go as one might hope, so we agreed to mutually part ways.”
“Y. is a good guy and to us, he will always remain a friend. We wish Y. all the best for his future and hope he will find joy and success outside the team.”
As of Wednesday, the team had no announcement yet on who will replace Hignet in the No. 85 BMW M4 GT3 that is slated to run the full 2021 iRacing Nürburgring Endurance Championship season.
“No, we don’t have a replacement driver yet, so there is nothing to announce yet. When this changes, we’ll make sure and let you know. But we’ve started reaching out and we’ll see how we can fill that seat with a new full-time driver.”, said Fischer.
The No. 85 BMW team currently sits 171st in the GT3 championship standings of the iRacing NEC, after two of nine championship rounds. Round 3 is scheduled in four weeks, on May 30th.
