GT4 Porsche Junior fourth in NEC season finale
Hignet, who signed with Fischer Motorsport only a little over one month ago, made his third start for the team and his first ever in the iRacing Nürburgring Endurance Championship that runs nine races at the Nürburgring Nordschleife every year.
Accordingly, the Frenchman was excited about making his first start at the legendary German track:
“Man, I can’t tell you how excited I am about this opportunity. Obviously this is one of the greatest tracks in the world and the Porsche Cayman is a fun car, with a fantastic team. I couldn’t be happier to be part of this weekend.”
Joining Hignet in making his series debut as well with the Fischer Motorsport Porsche Junior team, was Florian Volk from Grebenhain, Germany. The 25-year old usually competes in the IVRA GT Sprint Series driving for Mayer Simspeed Performance.
Hignet took on driving duties in Qualifying and posted a lap of 8:45.792, which was fast enough to put the No. 25 Porsche Cayman GT4 on 9th position on the starting grid for the four-hour event.
At the start, things got wild in a hurry. Battling for position, Hignet made contact with another GT4 class car and both cars spun. The incident relegated the team to the back of the pack, but the race was far from over.
The Paris, France native showed why Fischer Motorsport signed him to the team last month and made up four positions in the first ten laps of the race before coming down pit road for the team’s first pit stop of the race and driver swap.
As Hignet got out of the car, Florian Volk jumped in behind the steering wheel and went on to complete the race’s middle stint for the team.
Things continued to look positive for the team and as other cars found trouble, Volk impressed in his first start for Fischer Motorsport, moving the car into the top-five with excellent pace and consistency.
As the race entered its final hour, the team was now running in fourth position and after completing its second driver swap, Y. Hignet went on to take the checkered flag for the team, scoring an impressive fourth place finish.
“That was a lot of fun. The race was intense. I had to stay fully focused at all times, to make no mistakes. The Nordschleife is obviously super challenging. But I’m really happy with my performance today. I felt pretty good in the car.”, Florian Volk commented after the race.
En route to their fourth place finish, the No. 25 Porsche Cayman GT4 team completed 27 laps in the four-hour race.
