In a strong effort Fischer Motorsport comes up just short in the VSCA SportsCar Championship season finale, but all three cars finish in the top ten

The inaugural VSCA SportsCar Championship season ended with a thriller of a race on Saturday and Fischer Motorsport placed its No. 14 Dallara in second place in the P2 Prototype class, after a strong effort by drivers Niclas Pedersen, David Koopmans and Kyle Birnie. It was the No. 14 Dallara team’s third top-five of the season, good enough to place them third in the overall series championship. In the end, the team missed the overall championship in P2 Prototype class by only eleven points.

In the VSCA Endurance Cup, the in-series championship consisting of the four endurance races at Daytona, Sebring, Watkins Glen and Road Atlanta, the No. 14 Dallara ends the season tied for first place but comes up short winning the title based on wins.

In GT3, the No. 84 Porsche led the way and closed out the season strong with a fourth-place finish, that ultimately came down to the very last lap, when long-time nemesis and well-known competitor and eventual series champions, the No. 67 Porsche of Kinetic Racing was involved in a scare to avoid a spun race car in the esses. For drivers Manuel Mayer and Jay Van Meppelen it was the fourth consecutive top-five finish.

In the final GT3 standings of the VSCA SportsCar Championship, the No. 84 Porsche takes third place with 4 top-five and 7 top-ten finishes. The team’s best run was a second-place finish in the Elkhart Lake Sports Car Challenge at Road America.

The No. 85 Porsche of Stephen Nobes and Will Robertson had a strong Petit Le Mans race early on but faltered late after getting punted in the rear by the No. 312 BMW of Real Pixel Motorsport in an accordion effect traffic jam between turn six and seven on lap 160.

The No. 84 and No. 85 Porsche finished fourth and eighth, respectively, in the 2022 VSCA season finale Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta

Still, the British-Canadian drivers duo continued to battle hard and brought home an eighth-place finish. It was the No. 85 Porsche team’s second top-ten finish of the season. In the final GT3 standings of the VSCA SportsCar Championship, the team ends up P18.

In eight championship rounds, the team’s best result – a P7 finish - came in the season opener, the 24 Hours of Daytona.

Speaking about the 2022 VSCA season of all his three teams, team owner Benjamin Fischer said:

“Obviously you always want to win every race and the championship. So, in that regard, you could say we haven’t achieved our goals this year. But our P2 Prototype team has almost won the Endurance Cup championship and got P3 in the overall championship. Plus, Niclas and David won at Mosport. And in GT, our 84 Porsche has finished P3 in the championship. So, there are a lot of positives as well.”

“I think the most important part in all of this is, that we have been able to address our inconsistent driver pairings from early in the season. This has made a difference and will put us in a better spot going forward. We’ll definitely go full attack again next year.”

“But regardless, I have to give the boys a lot of credit. They have fought hard all year long. Everybody gave it their best every time and never gave up, even when things got difficult. It’s a testament to the spirit and grit of this team. I’m excited what’s ahead of this team. We’ll only get better.”, Fischer finished.

The 2023 VSCA SportsCar Championship season kicks off with the Roar before the 24 in January, before the first championship round, the 24 Hours of Daytona runs one week later.
